College=A Meat Market

{Top: H&M, Vest: Thrifted, Maxi Skirt: Target, Sandals: H&M, Necklace: F21, Friendship Bracelet: c/o Little Bro ;)}

I was walking into school today wearing this very outfit when I was stopped by a rather large Tongan guy handing out fliers for the school's dance this weekend. He said, "Ooooh girl I like your style (insert the hand gesture of an hourglass figure here), what's your name? Where are you from? Please say you are coming to the dance to dance with me. I didn't bother to say I was married...it seemed that it would be rather rude ;).
Now I'm not telling you this to brag or help boost my ego, it's just to depict how much of a meat market college is. See I didn't have this when I was in school for Fashion, in my class there were mainly girls and gay boys (no need to worry about anything there). This meat market-ness is especially heighten when you go to the religious college like I do. Guys have 2 things on their mind: marriage, and procreate, procreate, procreate. All I gotta say is man am I glad I am not a part of that scene and found me a great guy, and also thank you to that Tongan boy you sort of made my day ;)!
To all my single ladies out there, don't worry your time will come and it will be glorious!

ps: Isn't my shirt so Jerseylicious ;)...I secretly well now openly watch that show...again I have no shame in my TV watching ;).

pps: Linked up to Thriftaholics Weekly yet?

First let me say that I really like your blog and I read it everyday in my Google Reader. However, when you tell this story and you use a racial identifier it seems prejudicial espescially since it didn't or shouldn't have had anything to do with the point of the story. Now, if you were talking to someone on campus who might have known said guy and needed an identifier to pick out which guy it was that thought you were hot, it would have been appropriate, but in this forum it's not.

I'm not writing this to say that you are a bad person in anyway, just letting you know that as a minority it's things like this that get you a little miffed. Had the guy been white, I doubt you would have said "this white guy". I'm telling you just to "drop some knowledge", JIC you don't accidently offend anyone. I know I cringe when someone tells me a story and says, "this black girl" or "this black guy", if there is no need for it in the story. Again, love your blog and I'll continue to read and I know why the guy stopped you, you always look great!

Oooh, yes, I couldn't agree more. I ran while in college and my route took me by the male dorms. Every single time I would hear whistles and cat calls. They were obviously too far away to really see or smell me. But, it was flattering sometimes.

You look so good the vest is the perfect addition! Thats so funny about that guy I can totally picture it :) I love jersey shore too, if you decided to wear your shirt as a dress then snooks would approve :)

Haha! Love this! It's true that it's kind of a good feeling to get hit on, even when you are already taken. It's nice to know a girl's still got it... Even if the guy is slightly creepy, which half the time they are if they didn't ring check before flirting.

lol Don't you love it when you're like, "I think I should be offended." But really a comment like that makes your day? Sometimes its nice to know you've still got it even if you did already catch the best fish in the sea :)
